Cat Discipline

Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep cats from jumping onto the kitchen counter?

My cats have been walking on the kitchen counters while we’re not looking. It’s getting quite unsanitary with all the paw prints and sometimes tracks of cat litter on the counter where I chop vegetables.

Lead Belaying - ATC or Grigri?
Category: Q & A Tags: ATC, Grigri, Safety, belaying devices

I was wondering what everyone uses for lead belaying. Up until now I’ve been using the ATC, but I’m thinking about switching to my Grigri….finally!

Love my Grigri for its color but more importantly the autolocking and not pulling me up as much as the ATC would during a fall. Especially with outdoors, I think I would feel much better with the…

Declawing-- do or don't

I just came across this article about whether it is humane to declaw cats. I adopted my cats about 10 years ago and had them both declawed. I was pretty young at the time and didn’t think twice about the severity of the surgery. My parents were more concerned about the…

How much to feed a "hungry" dog?
Category: Q & A Tags: Bella, beagle, hunger, whine, food, feeding, Behavior

Lately, I feel like Bella has been trying to trick me. She’s a 24 lb beagle but typically 21 lbs in the Summer. All day long she whines by the closet where I keep her food.

I feed her 3x a day at about half a cup each time and sometimes a little more when she whines. My golden on the other hand is about 85 lbs and gets 2.5 cups a day and neve…

Cat Litter - what do you use?
Category: Q & A Tags: Cat Litter, Fresh Step, messy

My cats have been tracking inside with them a lot of little clumps of cat litter. I am using Fresh Step Scoopable I get from Costco in a super sized container. I’ve tried the crystals as well…but the urine did not clump at all!! I tried contacting Fresh Step but did not get a response. Any good suggestions on a good litter? Thanks.

A music CD in a frequency only heard by canines has topped the New Zealand CD record charts! Seems like it may also hit the U.S. soon! More $$ to spend on our doggies. :-)

Doo-doo Sniffers

With their keen sense of smell and the ability to distinguish more than a dozen feces of different species, our canine friends are working as “tracking devices” in aiding conservation biologists to further their wildlife research. What a great idea! Perhaps I can train Bella…
