climbing websites etc

Since I’m probably not the only one on the wrong side of of the work/climb time devide, I thought it would be helpful to get out some climbing links (besides largesquare) to check out when your boss isn’t watching you. I’ll start with a few, everyone else can keep coming with their own.

http://www.rockclimbing.com/

Big climbing message board, with all the inherent problems and hilarities.

http://www.8a.nu/

Euro-centric climbing leader board/news site, a bit comp/ratings obsessed but does have interesting stuff.

http://www.podclimber.com/

Currently down, but this is a free audio (sometimes video) climbing podcast with interviews, training tips, trip reports, etc. You can get it from their site or subscribe through itunes.

http://www.drtopo.com/

Pdf guidebooks for free, also news and videos.

http://www.supertopo.com/

More guides, also got itself a forum that I’ve never really checked out.

What else?

Awesome, thanks Dan. I’ll add more later, but I wanted to throw one out there quick: http://www.redriverclimbing.com

It’s got a great online guidebook (especially the advanced search) and the forums are good for entertainment.

This is also a very nice site. I frequented it when I used to set at FP/FFC:

SuperTopo’s forums are pretty good. Fairly Yosemite-centric crowd but it’s gotten more diverse in the last couple of years. You’ll see some of the older names on there, like John Bachar, Mike Gramicci, John Gill, and Ed Hartouni.

nerorshockmike mentions mountainproject.com

which merged and overtook many area guidebook style sites into one homesite. Among those merged into it were:

Devil’sLakeClimbing.com

Use it to learn your way around the Lake, and try to ignore the “flame” or forgive the “flamers” that often comment below posts. I don’t know why some climbers thrive on that stuff. It seems largesquare has a more peaceful following!

A cousin of mine is actually a raging flamer. He’s on many blogs as the antagonist fanning the flames. It’s annoying on blogs and annoying in person so I know what you mean, Tom.
