Road Trip

A couple friends and I are hitting the road June 1st starting in Las Vegas, then moving up the west coast, riding back east to Chicago around June 28th for a small break before making the second leg up through the northeast, down the east coast, and finally through the deep south, Texas, and Arizona to complete the loop finishing in Vegas. We plan to camp (and hopefully climb) a lot, and pack a lot of our own Bulk food/staples, to cut down on food and lodging. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, couches, national parks, or sights they can offer/recommend?

Hit me up if you plan on coming through Boulder/Denver area. I think, from what I’ve heard, there’s supposed to be a bit of climbing in this area…. I know Keith from Fitplex is working his way out here this summer too on his road trip. You really can’t beat a nice multi pitch trad climb in Rocky Mountain National Park.

If you haven’t already, check out www.couchsurfing.com

It’s a site where you can make connections with people in different towns who have extra room for guests and the accommodations are free!

I’ve never used it myself, but a friend who is currently taking a round-the-world trip tried it a few times in different countries. Apparently it’s a good way to travel on a budget and also meet some interesting new people.

Sounds like lots of fun. I’m assuming you guys are already planning on going to Yosemite, right? Andy and I were there a couple of years ago and I’m hoping we’ll get a chance to go back this summer. One thing is that you should reserve your wilderness pass early since it gets really crowded around that time of the year. Let me know if you want detailed recommendations within the park. I can tell you about the places that we visited. And you know you and your friends are always welcome at our place in SF if you decide to swing by!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I had bouldering and sport in mind, mostly because I don’t have a rack, but I’d really like to get into it. Mdub, I think we will be making a stop in Colorado because my room mate is from Broomfield, so that should work out. As for you Christine, you know that I’ll be invading your house again in SF, and eating your cereal out of tupperware, just make sure you rent both Hostel’s before we get in.
