King Lines: the most bestest climbing DVD ever made?

This latest film from Big Up productions and Sender Films came out in Sept ‘07 with much the hype, PR, and marketing one would expect from a Hollywood film. Heck, I think there was more marketing behind this file than The Darjeeling Limited

Well, so does the film live up to all the hype? Hells Yeah!

It follows the tradition of the Dosages series in documenting Sharma’s (successful) quest to send the next hardest climb. However, my favorite segment is one which Sharma climbs this 13b trad route with his old ‘mentor’ from back home. Seeing Sharma climbing on finger cracks with cams and stuff is just odd.

The quality of the shots, I must say, has taken another step up from the last Dosage. I keep trying to visualize the rig they set up to film these climbs…the camera angle they used captures the flow and movement of the climbs extremely well.

This is a great video, and a must-have. However, I still think First Ascent is the best climbing video ever made (King Lines is too much of a homage to Sharma for my taste)

btw, check out the Extras. There are some sweet footages of Dave Graham climbing Realization and others

speaking of Extras. The first patch of DVDs they sent out had some problems, and some parts of the Extras were cut out. You can go here to download them

See dude! I knew it was weird that they cut someone off mid sentence at the end of that clip.

I did not like King Lines. It seemed like an interview/ biography. Not enough climbing. What do I care about Sharma’s childhood? I wanted to seem some climbing and I only got a drip.

Personally, I like Uncommon Ground.
