Will be heading to Costa Rica at the end of April. I was just curious if anyone had any recommendations for climbing there. Not looking for indoor, looking for outdoor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I went to Costa Rica for 2 weeks about a while back, and although I was initially itching to do some rock climbing, my time was more than occupied by all the other predominant outdoor activities and destinations. I have listed a few link for climbing below that I was looking at to help out. although, I must say again that the hiking, camping and kayaking in the Osa Peninsula, the 3 to 4 days of deep sea fishing in Peurto Jiminez, the rainforests and great coffee in Monte Verde and the Arenal Volcano and surrounding areas all provided plenty of entertainment to the point that my shoes and chalk bag never came out. Whatever you do, you’ll have a blast. Super friendly people and the best pineapple ever…

Although this is a nascent sport in Costa Rica, the possibilities are promising. There are several challenging rock formations close to San José and along the Cerro de la Muerte, as well as great climbing opportunities on Mount Chirripó. The folks at Tropical Bungee (tel. 248-2212; www.bungee.co.cr) are the most dependable operators in this field, and they regularly organize climbing outings. Alternatively, you could stop in at Mundo Aventura (tel. 221-6934; www.maventura.com), an adventure- and climbing-gear store with an indoor climbing wall and in-house tour company.
