Too cold to climb at the Red in March?

Tags: rrg

Thinking about going down the RRG towards the end of March. Can anyone predict what the temp is gonna be? No seriously, we went last year in early April, and it was freakishly cold. What do you guys think? Thanks!

sorry but I think predictions are fairly useless.

last year Katherine and I went down for a weekend in either late January or February (can’t remember which month) and it was so warm that we didn’t really use our sleeping bags. (it was in the 60s at night)

freakishly warm? yes. however, you just have to keep your eyes on the forecast and hope it works out.

Ditto. Predictions for that area of the South are useless. Your efforst will be futile. And all your base are belong to us.

My prediction: Miguel needs to grow a pair.

After spending the last week down there, I’m curious how you define freakishly cold Miguel. Temps in the 40s during the day? Under freezing over night?

We saw pretty much the entire spring spectrum for Kentucky, including snow (while climbing), rain, sun, wind, daytime temps from 40-70, frost on tents, shirts-off climbing time, etc. Overall it was perfect. I think you just have to be able to enjoy it all.
